These skin conditions affect the oil glands within the hair follicle that secrete sebum (oil). Oily skin produces extra sebum and can lead to blocked pores and cause congestion. Due to blocked pores created by dead skin cells and oil, bacteria can grow within the follicle and lead to inflammation. These give rise to pimples, and in some cases cysts, and can lead to scarring.
